Sekthaus Raumland was established in 1990 by Volker Raumland who is also the Cellar Master in this family-run sparkling wine house located in Flörsheim-Dahlsheim. Volker describes himself as being “infected with the champagne virus” ever since his sparkling wine came first in a competition of international cuvées while he was studying viticulture. He never looked back and has dedicated his winemaking to the production of Sekt, the German traditional method bubbly. Often called the German “Sektpapst” or Sekt Pope for his pioneering spirit, he sparked a quality revolution in the German sparkling wine scene.
Wife Heide-Rose is the right hand of the business and daughters Katharina and Maria-Luise are poised to follow in their parents’ footsteps with their own blend of tradition and innovation.
A VDP member since 2020, Sekthaus Raumland is meticulous in its sparkling wine production methods. It only uses hand-selected and harvested fruit and whole cluster pressing to preserve delicate aromas. Its cuvées lies on lees for four to 12 years. The Sekthaus Raumland range is from the classic grape varieties Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Blanc and Riesling because in Volker’s words “typical German grape varieties should not be missing”.
This eco-certified Sekt producer makes 80,000 bottles annually.
